One of the best things about our animal companions is the comfort and joy they bring to our daily lives. Their unconditional love is there with snuggles when we wake up in the morning, it’s there with a wagging tail when we get home from work, and it’s in that adoring look in their eyes whenever we see their furry faces.
An animal’s love is even more valuable in times of sickness or grief. This is one of the messages of Bark for Life. This unique event for dogs, their owners and families, celebrates canine companions while contributing to the Canadian Cancer Society’s efforts in the fight to eradicate cancer and ease the burden for people facing the disease.
This year marks the 5th annual Bark for Life, and they are hosting two events in Toronto; Trinity Bellwoods Park on Saturday September 20, 2014 and High Park on Sunday September 21, 2014.
For many cancer sufferers and survivors their canine companions provide unconditional love, joy, security, and compassion during their cancer journey. For them, Bark For Life is an opportunity to celebrate their own victory, remember their dog’s role in their life and raise funds to fight back against the disease.
Bark For Life is a fun-walk event that is supported through individual donations collected by registered event participants and their dog friends. There are loads of fun activities for the whole family, and of course your four-legged best friends, and lots of prizes to be won. Each registered participant will receive a “wag” bag and a dog bandana.
Participants can register with their canine companion at www.cancer.ca/barkforlife. Can’t make the event but want to support the cause? Consider sponsoring one of the participants by making a donation.
