Jackson Galaxy is in search of best feline high-five with a contest that kicks off on national high-five day. Could your whiskered friend be the champion?
Dogs aren’t the only animals that can learn tricks! Cats in rescues and shelters across the country are being taught to high-five, in order to increase their chances of being adopted. This adorable endeavor is part of The Jackson Galaxy Project’s Cat Pawsitive, a lifesaving movement that aims to increase feline adoption rates by teaching shelter staff and volunteers how to implement positive reinforcement training for cats.
To celebrate the success of Cat Pawsitive, GreaterGood.org and Jackson Galaxy are hosting the 2nd annual Cat Pawsitive National High-Five Day Contest, which kicks off on April 18 – National High-Five Day! Cat lovers are invited to share their most creative feline high-five videos at felinehighfive.com, for a chance to win cash grants for their favorite animal shelter/rescue and an invite to celebrity pet Lil BUB’s birthday party with Jackson Galaxy.
According to Jackson Galaxy and the Cat Pawsitive team, felines exposed to reward-based training methods experience greater confidence, reduced stress levels, and are able to build deeper bonds with humans. Plus, if the “meet and greet” with a potential adopter goes well, a cute party trick like high fiving is sure to help seal the deal!
Jackson Galaxy will select the top 25 high-five entries for the public to vote on from May 20 to June 2. The top three entries with the most votes will be announced on June 3. The grand prize is a $5,000 cash grant to an animal shelter/rescue of the winner’s choice, and an invitation (+1 guest) to Lil BUB’s birthday party in Los Angeles with Jackson Galaxy. Second place is a $3,000 cash grant to a shelter/rescue of the winner’s choice and Third Place is a $2,000 cash grant to a shelter/rescue of the winner’s choice. May the best feline high-fiver win!
